HIGHLIGHTS AND OVERVIEW
Every year tens of thousands of festgoers descend upon Cedarburg for Strawberry Festival, an art- and music-filled weekend celebrating the strawberry. The 34th annual Strawberry Festival will fill the streets of Cedarburg on June 22 & 23, 2019, and expand its offerings with the new Party in the Park, featuring a beer garden and Blues Bash in Cedar Creek Park and an additional opportunity for festgoers to enjoy Cedarburg outside of normal fest hours.
Festivals of Cedarburg is partnering with the Paramount Music Association to bring the Blues Bash to Strawberry Festival. Kids’ performers will still entertain around the festival both days, but at 1:30pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday local and regional blues performers, including Reverend Raven and the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys with Westside Andy, Altered Five Blues Band, Alex Wilson and The Jimmys, will start singing the blues for festival attendees. The Party in the Park will offer extended festival hours until 9pm on Saturday and 8pm on Sunday. A portion of the beer garden proceeds will benefit Family Promise of Ozaukee County.
In addition to the new Party in the Park Paramount Blues Bash, fest goers will enjoy the music at the Gruber Law Office Main Stage - Festival Food Court which will feature rockin’ fun cover bands with shaded seating and is in close proximity to the main Festival Food Court. The 2019 lineup includes local favorites like Will Pfrang and the Good Land Gang, The Bees, Jay Matthes & Band, and Our House. Extended hours at the Gruber Law Office Main Stage on Saturday night will feature Solid Cedar, a Milwaukee band that entertains crowds with rock, blues, bluegrass, funk, reggae and more. Solid Cedar will perform until 8:30pm. Live music will be all over the Festival’s Historic District satisfying every music lover's taste.
Strawberry Festival will continue on much as it has in the past, with thousands of festgoers browsing and purchasing original artwork from hundreds of artists, participating in fun activities and indulging in some of the most decadent homegrown strawberries and strawberry delicacies in the area.
Wander down Washington Avenue and you’ll see why “Art is a Tradition” in Cedarburg. Fondly referred to as Arts on the Avenue, Strawberry Festival highlights more than 200 of the best local and national artists who bring their combined perspectives, skills, and thousands of works of arts to the streets of Cedarburg, including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media, and photography. Arts on the Avenue is a combined effort of three local organizations, the Cedarburg Cultural Center, Cedar Creek Settlement Merchant's Association, Cedarburg Garden Club, and the Cedarburg Art Museum, and offers one-of-a-kind works of art from functional to surreal, from witty to the elegantly decorative, as well as the opportunity to meet most of the artists in person.
Strawberry Festival’s many food vendors are a huge draw to the festival, and sure to please any palate. Throughout the festival foodies will find strawberry pie, strawberry crepes, strawberry slushies and chocolate-covered strawberries as well as many other locally made delicacies. Festival Food Court favorites include the “Original” Strawberry Brat, Strawberry Shortcake and Strawberry Chicken Wrap, plus their popular Strawberry Brat Corndogs which premiered at the Festival in 2018. These tasty treats are a few festival offerings that financially benefit Festivals of Cedarburg. Other Festival Food Court offerings include everything from summer favorites like hamburgers, chicken, BBQ and roasted corn, to sweet treats and specialty foods like ethnic specialties, regional favorites and gator on a stick. Schmit’s Berry Farm, a local grower, provides the festival with the most ripe and juicy strawberries, available for purchase by the quart. The popular Sunday morning all-you-can-eat Strawberry Pancake Breakfast takes place on the north end of the Festival grounds from 8:00-11:00 a.m. (weather permitting) and is served by the Cedar Creek Settlement merchants. More than 1,000 customers get their fill of mouthwatering strawberry pancakes while listening to live music outside along Cedar Creek.
For attendees with a taste for wine, Cedar Creek Winery’s Strawberry Blush Wine is a must – this and the winery’s other award-winning wines can be purchased by the bottle or glass.
At the north end of the grounds, the Cedar Creek Settlement offers lively music on stage both days, featuring one of Milwaukee’s premier bands, Livin’ the Dream, from 12:00-4:00 on Saturday followed by the up-tempo sounds of Kevin Kennedy from 4-6:00 pm. On Sunday, 12:00-4:00 pm, the fantastic sounds of Bobby Way & the Fabulous Wayouts show band will make fans jump up and dance. Throughout the grounds fest goers can also enjoy live music at the Cedarburg Lion’s Club tent at Bridge & Washington Avenue and at their Midtown location; behind the Cedarburg Art Museum in their backyard beer garden, and at the Bella Lei Salon stage in the afternoons.
For our littlest strawberry-lovers, The Party in the Park in Cedar Creek Park still offers pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatable bounce houses, food vendors, dancers, clowns and lots of other activities. One of the Festival’s most popular events is the CedarQuacker 500 sponsored by Port Washington State Bank, where hundreds of rubber ducks are launched into the creek in a race to the finish Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. Other family friendly activities include the Spudmobile, a mobile education and entertainment center hosted by the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association, and the Kemps area, where families can participate in fun contests like Ice Cream Licking, Ice Cream Sandwich Eating and Yogurt-Through-A-Straw. Families will also enjoy the “Nail It or Fail It” cupcake decorating competition hosted by Delicately Delicious, where contestants of all ages compete to recreate a cupcake masterpiece, often with hilarious results.
Want to see a little more of beautiful Historic Cedarburg? The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ozaukee County’s “Berry Big” 5K Run/Walk kicks off Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and circles through the neighborhoods that surround the downtown area. Or take a ride on the Tractor Hayride Shuttle that travels around the festival route, provided by Country Aire Rides. Off the festival footprint, the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts will feature Free Family Fun Day on Saturday from noon – 4pm that includes strawberry crafts. The museum is also free and open Sunday.
Our Official Festival Merchandise booth will be located at Columbia and Washington Avenue, right in the middle of the festival. Don’t leave without a souvenir!
We're so sorry, we do not allow pets at Strawberry Festival for the safety of all patrons per City of Cedarburg Ordinance 2016-06 Section 7-14-1(c)(7). Tickets will be issued.
